For this project I worked on an existing residential development in Withington to explore the feasibility of an intergenerational co-living project. Through meetings with Southway Trust who provides affordable homes we discovered the top priority for rehoming in the UK is people in life threatening domestic environments and that most existing residents are women and children, from this our co-client emerged – the Pankhurst Trust.

The site was re-designed proposing a community day house and greenhouse and 4 housing blocks, each with a different co-living typology relating to varying housing needs and family structures.

High retention of existing buildings was achieved by maintaining 90% of the building’s envelopes, reducing cost and time of construction.
